GCSE & IGCSE courses include 12 hrs of tuition taken over 2 full days. 9am to 5pm. It is ESSENTIAL that you read the accompanying course outline(s) before applying for the course.

+ Aim

The aim of this tuition is to prepare students in the final year of the GCSE French course with specific focus on the main areas of challenge: Grammar, Writing and Translation. The course has been created with insight into some of the most common predicted areas of weakness which must be avoided in order for pupils to access the highest levels.  All students will be given the opportunity to write practice essays on order to apply and consolidate their skills.

+ Key Topics Covered

Verb tenses: (present, future, conditional, perfect, imperfect, pluperfect, future and conditional perfects) all relevant pronouns, definite / indefinite articles, adjectives and adverbs.

Approaches to essay writing and techniques including key structures and link phrases and other skills / tips that will enable students to reach for higher levels.

Approaches to translation (English to French / French to English).

+ Assessment

The course will include homework to be completed each night and students will answer mock exam questions to enable feedback.

+ Course Materials

Students should bring copies of their own specifications and their main textbooks. All other materials will be provided.

+ Other Information

It is advised that students revise topical vocabulary in preparation for this course as no time will be allocated for vocabulary learning. Students should bring their own dictionaries and / or may wish to bring their textbooks with topic-based vocabulary lists in the back of them.

Please note that the emphasis given to particular topics will be weighted to the needs and requirements of the candidates in the group.
