A Level courses include 21 hrs of tuition taken over 3.5 days. It is ESSENTIAL that you read the accompanying course outline(s) before applying for the course.

+ Aim

The aim of this course is to revise the topics included in these two physics specifications. As far as possible, the sessions will be tailored to the needs of the students so that some topics will be covered more extensively than others.  It is likely that there will be a greater focus on the more challenging second year topics. Tutors will make every effort to overcome individual difficulties, whilst still providing an overview of both specifications.

Waves & photons

Simple Harmonic Motion & circular motion

Fields (electric, gravitational, magnetic), electromagnetism & capacitors

Thermal physics & ideal gases

Radioactivity & nuclear physics (Some of the nuclear physics on the OCR H556 A-level syllabus is part of the particle physics AS syllabus for AQA 7408. Only topics common to both exam boards will be covered on this course.

Important Notes:

The particle physics aspects of the AQA syllabus (section 3.2.1) will not be covered on this course.

AQA Physics – The course will cover the whole of core content, but not option subjects.

OCR Physics A– The course will cover the whole of module 5 (Newtonian world & astrophysics) and all of module 6 (Particles & medical physics) except for medical imaging and some aspects of astrophysics.

+ Assessment

The course will include homework to be completed each night and students will answer mock exam questions to enable feedback.

+ Course Materials

Students should bring copies of their own specifications and their main textbooks. A scientific electronic calculator is needed for the course.

+ Other Information

The course is not suitable for the OCR Physics B (Advancing Physics) specification.

Due to the fact that this is only the fourth year of the new Physics courses, the number of past papers is limited, so suitable questions from older exam papers will also be used where appropriate.

Please note that the emphasis given to particular topics will be weighted to the needs and requirements of the candidates in the group.
