Harrow as a film or photo shoot location
The beautiful and historic buildings of Harrow School have provided an atmospheric backdrop to films such as The Saint, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the BBC's Pride and Prejudice, Goodbye Mr Chips, and most recently, Ladies in Lavender starring Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, directed by Charles Dance. Harrow also makes a stylish and dramatic location for magazine shoots and has been featured in GQ and World of Interiors magazines. Commercials for BT, Adidas and Polaroid have also been filmed at Harrow.
With 400 year old buildings and 430 acres of countryside the School provides ample choices for a single or multi-location shoot, and is situated only 12 miles from central London, or 20 minutes from the M25.
Here are a few examples of the many choices Harrow offers location managers.
The Fourth Form Room
The Fourth Form Room is the original classroom used by the first pupils at Harrow School after its completion in 1615. With its wood panels, original forms and mullioned windows, it provides the perfect location for school or courtroom scenes and was used as the scene of magic lessons at Hogwarts in the first Harry Potter film.
Speech Room
Speech Room features row upon row of traditional wooden chairs facing a stage behind which stained glass windows look down upon heraldic pews. Used as the huge lecture theatre in The Saint, Speech Room is a spectacular amphitheatre that provides drama and atmosphere. Click here for a 360° virtual tour of Speech Room.
The War Memorial
Inside and out, the War Memorial offers scope for many period settings. Most recently the main hallway inside served as the railway station in the TV production of Trollope's He Knew He Was Right complete with tea shop and ticket office, while its Georgian-style columns provided the perfect setting for a horse and carriage and ladies in sweeping crinolines. The War Memorial was also adapted for the fencing scene in the BBC's Pride and Prejudice while the steps outside launched the famous elopement.
Sports locations
The School has a brand new, Olympic standard athletics track, as well as tennis courts, obstacle course and swimming pool, all of which can be hired as film locations.
Other facilities
The School has ample parking space on site, including space for support vehicles and can provide catering and accommodation for cast and crew during the school holidays. Our experienced team offer flexible support and are well-used to catering for the unique pressures of location filming.
