Course outline
Aim
This course aims to reinforce subject knowledge, hone examination technique and build individual confidence
The course focuses on some of the core areas of the GCSE Modern World History specifications currently offered by the four major exam boards: International Relations in the 20th century and Depth Studies centred on Germany, Russia / Soviet Union and the USA.
Key Topics Covered
The following topics will be covered at some point during the course:
- The origins of WWI and the Paris Peace Treaties of 1919/20
- International Relations 1919 – 1929
- The Road to WWII 1929 – 39
- The Origins and Development of the Cold War c.1945 – 1990
- From Tsarism to Stalinism: Russia 1905 – 1941
- Germany 1918 – 45: from Weimar Republic to Third Reich
Other Information
The course will include:
- Delivery of first rate subject material
- Focus on skills in answering structured questions and interpreting sources
- Exhaustive use of past examination questions supported by relevant mark schemes
Pupils will be expected to:
- Actively engage in class discussion
- Follow direction in the classroom setting
- Complete assigned work diligently and to deadline (including homework)
Points to note
Issues relating to internal assessment / coursework cannot be dealt with and pupils must be aware and be understanding that at times areas that they are not studying may be covered, to ensure all students are catered for.
In all cases, students should come to the first session with full details of the specification which they are studying and the topics to be examined on. Students should also bring along their existing notes and any textbooks which they have.
