Aim

The revision course is designed for students who will be sitting the main GCSE examination papers in summer 2012. It is only suitable for candidates entered for the Higher Tier in GCSE Spanish (grades A* to C). The course will be split with attention being paid to the four examined skill areas: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.

Key Topics Covered

Students will have the opportunity for extensive practice of the above-listed four skills within each of the five GCSE “Areas of Experience”

  • At home and abroad
  • Education, training and employment
  • House, home and daily routine
  • Media, entertainment and youth culture
  • Social activities, fitness and health

This will be particularly important with the amount of increased target-language testing for the control assessments. The use of past papers of all boards (adapted where appropriate) will be extensive, to reinforce good practice and to heighten student confidence.

The course will cover important vocabulary in all the five “Areas of Experience” as well as revising the following key grammatical points

  • All Verb Tenses
  • Nouns and Articles
  • Adverbs and Adjectives
  • Possessives
  • Prepositions
  • Conjunctions
  • Comparatives and Superlatives
  • Linking words
  • Negatives
  • Para and por
  • Personal ‘a’
  • Diminutives and other Suffixes
  • Impersonal verbs (eg: gustar) 
  • Ser and Estar
  • Demonstratives
  • Subjunctive structures

Particular attention will be paid to grammar points, which are specific to the written and oral components of the examination.

Appropriate idiomatic expressions, useful phrases and vocabulary will also be covered in detail.

Other Information

The course is structured across two days of tuition (14 hrs). It will include sessions on exam technique, in addition to refreshing the key concepts and knowledge of Spanish that the students will bring to the course. Please let us know the exam board, textbook and grammar book that you use. Please bring all your files, notes and work done during the year with you. Dictionaries will be provided for work in the class but please bring your own to help you with your homework.

This course does not cover preparation oral and written assessments that are moderated / submitted to Examination boards by schools.

This course is available during GCSE Session 4 (Tue 9 & Wed 10 April) only.

Please note that the emphasis given to particular topics will be weighted to the needs and requirements of the candidates in the group. GCSE courses include 14 hours of tuition (excluding breaks but including some testing) taken over 2 consecutive days.
